The National Green Tribunal fine Rs 2 lakh per day on the UP State Industrial Development Corporation for a non-functional waste treatment plant in Trans Delhi Signature City
On June 12, The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has slapped a fine of Rs 2 lakh per day on the UP State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC) for a non-functional waste treatment plant in Ghaziabad\’s Tronica City. This had resulted in industrial pollution in the area.It will be continue till a sewage treatment plant made functional by UPSIDC.
NGT had ordered last year for inspection and analyse the effluent discharge of the industrial units by the state pollution control board.The Central Pollution Control Board submitted the report and told the majour volume of the inaction on the part of UPSIDC, consequent to which there is a severe pollution and adverse impact on the environment.
A plea was filed by Ghaziabad resident Rashid Ali Warsi and others for seeking the directions to UPSIDC to make operational the common effluent treatment plant (CETP) installed by the industrial units in Tronica City. NGT did not accept the request of Mr Sushil Kumar, Junior Engineer of UPSIDC to grant adjournment as they are unable to make any statement in the absence of their advocate. And said that In the given circumstances, we are unable to there is no justifiable reason for granting further adjournment.
A vacation bench of NGT headed by Justice Jawad Rahim, has perused their last order dated May 29, 2017. Where they had directed to Respondent No. 1 (UPSIDC) to make the CETP functional positively and report compliance. They had also directed in case of failure of STPs to function serious view will be taken. TThat time UPSIDC has given affidavit that they would remove the deficiencies and make the STP functional within the time, so granted was accepted but the directions are not complied with.
