New Delhi, April 19, 2025: The first phase of the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor, a 32-km stretch from Akshardham in Delhi to Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh, is slated for inauguration in the coming weeks. This six-lane expressway section, part of the 212-km high-speed corridor, will significantly ease travel for commuters in the trans-Yamuna region and nearby Uttar Pradesh districts. The 18-km segment from Akshardham to Loni will be toll-free, offering immediate relief to daily travelers, while the entire phase is designed to reduce travel time and decongest key routes.

The Akshardham-Baghpat stretch begins at Akshardham, passing through Shastri Park, Khajuri Khas, Trans Delhi Signature City formally known as Tronica City, UPAVP’s Mandola vihar yojna, and Loni, before reaching Baghpat. This phase includes multiple entry and exit points, underpasses, and advanced safety features to ensure smooth and secure travel. Despite a minor delay due to a legal dispute over a single property in Mandola, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is finalizing preparations to open this section, marking a critical milestone in the ₹12,000 crore project.

The benefits of Phase 1 are substantial, particularly for residents of Northeast Delhi and areas like Ghaziabad, Loni, and Baghpat. The expressway will cut travel time between Akshardham and Baghpat to under 30 minutes, compared to the current 1-1.5 hours during peak traffic. This will alleviate congestion on existing routes like the Wazirabad-Loni road, benefiting thousands of daily commuters, including workers and students. The toll-free Akshardham-Loni section will further reduce travel costs, making it a boon for local communities.

Economically, this phase will enhance connectivity to industrial and agricultural hubs in Baghpat and nearby areas, facilitating faster movement of goods and boosting trade. Improved access to Delhi’s markets and business centers will also drive growth in these regions. Additionally, the stretch will lay the foundation for the remaining phases of the corridor, setting the stage for seamless travel to Dehradun and beyond, while showcasing India’s commitment to modern, efficient infrastructure.
