The Signature Bridge project missed the deadline again and extended to July, 2017

AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) has announced in February, 2015, after came to power in Delhi, that the Signature Bridge project will be completed within a year, by June, 2016. But it has missed the deadline again and has been further extended to July, 2017 The Signature Bridge at river Yamuna, supposed to connect north and east Delhi with outer Delhi, has missed the July deadline again. Not only the deadline are missing but also the estimate of the project which was started by Rs. 456 crore has been escalated Rs. 887 crore in 1997, Rs. 1131 crore in 2010 and it escalated again Rs. 1594 crore in 2015 Delhi Tourism Department demanding this money from the state government.

The construction of the bridge was to be completed before the Commonwealth Games which was held in Oct 2010 but it is still going on till 2017. As per our sources undue interference have led to the delay in the project,only 60 percent project has been completed while around 40 percent of the bridge project is still pending. Due to various reasons like rise in the price of essential building materials the cost has escalated. A senior officer associated with the project said that Once it completed the government can recover the amount through the activities which are planned along the river side under the bridge.

The Signature Bridge will connect north east Delhi to other part of capital. It will also be a gateway to the Tronica City newly named as Trans Delhi Signature City in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, which is being developed by the Uttar Pradesh government\’s department UPSIDC LTD on the lines of Indirapuram and Kaushambi. The Signature bridge project has been missed the sixth deadline for completion and persistently marred by delays over the years, due to various reasons, like environmental clearances, financial constraints, by contractors, modification in original plan, (which included increasing the length of the bridge from 660 m to 675 m, and width from 33 m to 35.2 m), etc.first the bridge was plan was to construct the bridge with concrete but now it will be made steel pylon. The Bridge will have a cable-stayed structure with a main span bow-shaped steel pylon with the height about 175 meters of high-grade steel, it will be twice as high as Qutub Minar. Its longest slab without support will be 251 meters. with LED lights for illumination special days. On the second phase of The Signature bridge project will be the development of the river around the bridge
